Location Tralee Bay Sailing School is located 10 kilometres from Tralee town and is situated in Fenit village and harbour, on the edge of Tralee Bay. Fenit has a magnificent marina which shelters the local fishing and sailing boats. It also is the home to the Harbour Masters office, the local Lifeboat station and the Sea Angling club. The bay is overlooked by the Slieve Mish mountain range which stretches all the way to Dingle and is surrounded by numerous sandy beaches such as Fenit and Banna. Both Fenit and Banna carry the blue flag and during the summer holiday season a lifeguard is always on duty providing great safety for those that swim in the sea. The beaches provide great walking for all the family who may wish to exercise the family pet or stroll along taking in the wonderful views out further along the bay such as Little Samphire – Fenit lighthouse, Mount Brandon- the 2nd tallest mountain in Kerry and the Maharees islands which provide a resting place for many species of seabirds. In addition to these amenities it is worth strolling along the pier to view the sailors in action out on the water and to climb up to the statue of St Brendan the navigator who is close to our hearts here in the Kingdom and is said to have started out from Fenit when making his voyage across the Atlantic to discover America- or so we believe. Take a trip down the pier to read about his life history on the way up to visiting his monument! Amenities Fenit has a beautiful new playground, located just beside the beach in the village and is suitable for toddlers and older children The Beach Shop is a most friendly shop and restaurant which serves vegetarian meals, lovely cakes, hot chocolate and coffee at reasonable enough prices for families looking for a healthy option for their children. There is also the West End bar which includes a pub that serves bar food and a restaurant which serves excellent seafood which is caught locally.
