Sailing Courses

Tralee Bay Sailing club is recognised by The Irish Sailing Association and offers courses in sailing following the ISA's Small Boat Sailing Scheme. 

The ISA’s Sailing Schemes will allow you to learn and develop your sailing skills from absolute beginner to expert sailor, in the type of boat that you want to sail.

 

A Taste of Sailing

Aim
The aim of this introductory session is to offer a brief positive experience of the thrill of sailing small boats.

The session need not be covered if you are moving straight into the Start Sailing Course (Level 1).

 

Previous experience / Knowledge required
No previous experience or knowledge of sailing is required or assumed.

 

Duration
Your Taste of Sailing session will be at least 3 hours long of which a minimum of 11/2 hours would normally be spent afloat.

 

Type of Boats
You may do this course in sailing dinghies, catamarans or keelboats. When sailed in dinghies, catamarans or open keelboats you may do the course in single handed sailing boats.

 

At the end of this course and depending on the type of boat you are sailing, all participants should be able to do the following. .

Sailing Techniques & Manoevures All  Sailors will know how or will have done the following;

Both as crew* and helm;

  • Have reached or sailed accross the wind.
  • Have stopped the boat (lying to).
  • Have tacked the boat (turning the front of the boat through the wind).
Safety

 

All  Sailors will know how or will have done the following;
  • Be able to explain why personal buoyancy is always worn.
  • Be able to review the limitations of their ability.
  • Be able to identify the next step in continuing to participate in the sport.
